U.S. SEC Closes Investigation Into Ondo Finance, Clearing Path for Tokenized Assets
The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission has ended its two-year probe into ONDO Finance without enforcement action, signaling a potential shift in regulatory posture toward tokenization. The investigation, launched under former Chair Gary Gensler, examined whether Ondo's tokenized Treasury products complied with securities laws and if its native token constituted a security.
With the cloud of regulatory uncertainty lifted, Ondo plans to expand its U.S. operations. The decision coincides with new leadership at the SEC's crypto assets office, suggesting a more accommodating approach to blockchain-based financial innovation. "This closure removes the overhang on securities tokenization," a company spokesperson said, framing the outcome as validation for tokenizing traditional assets like U.S. Treasuries.
